TITLE VI DEPARTMENT
Although, technically a loan program developed to address the unique needs affecting native communities, especially those communities with considerable land mass held in trust by the Federal Government, the Title VI program provides loan guarantees for Indian Housing Block Grant (I.H.B.G.) recipients (Indian Tribes and TDHE’s) to engage in NAHASDA income-eligible activities. Recipients must be unable to borrow from other sources without the guarantee of payment by the Federal government.
Utilizing funds from grant and loan sources, William Guevara, Title VI Department Director will assess and endeavor to meet the tremendous housing needs of Tribal members located in Del Norte and Humboldt Counties. Current projects include acquiring homes for rental assistance and homeownership and the development of a savings program to assist members in accumulating monies towards down payment on a home, where every dollar saved by the participant may be eligible for a grant match.
Since it’s inception in January 2002, the Title VI department has begun to research, develop and implement new programs specific to the needs of tribal members throughout the service area.
