DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

The goal of the Development Department (D.D.) is to assist in the development of safe, affordable houses which promote a culturally sensitive design, constructed specifically for lower-income tribal members.

After applicant approval, the D.D. begins work on the project by submitting a Request for Service form. This required process determines the necessary Development, Architectural and Engineering works to be done to receive Planning and/or building permits. Once the permit is issued, the bidding process begins. At least (3) bids are needed to determine the best qualified contractor to award the job.

After referral to TERO (Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance) for permit processing, and negotiations have been settled, a manageable construction project ensues and continuous coordination with contractors, YIHA staff and local agencies facilitates the projects timely completion.

We recently finished a new Manufactured home in Smith River. Currently, there are three (3) Manufactured Home projects underway in Crescent City, Klamath, and Willow Creek.

We are also in pre-development phase for the construction of 58 new homes. In addition to providing new homes, we coordinate approved Rehabilitation projects for Tribal members existing residences. Facility improvements to the YIHA office are also underway. Please excuse our mess as we better prepare ourselves to provide enhanced service and assist us all in moving forward.
